>> i sure hope so because it puts our country at a competitive disadvantage, so we'll have to see what happens. >> we've got to leave it at that. thank you, ladies. thank you for joining us, everybody. lou dobbs is next right here on fox business. lou: good evening, everybody. washington, d.c. tonight is swirling. president trump today defended his firing of james comey once again. and the fbi had been in turmoil before he chose to take action. and the president's views supported by new acting fbi director andrew mccabe. mcabe today testifying that many of them were angry and frustrated with director comey's decision not to prosecute hillary clinton. the mainstream left-wing media has always been claiming that
comey had asked for more resources to expand the russian investigation just days before he was fired. but you will not be astonished to learn the new york times, the washington post, among others, misrepresented the truth. catherine herridge with our report. >> the acting fbi director testified the russia's case is on track and confidence remains strong in his old boss. >> director comey enjoyed broad support within the fbi. and still does to this day. i can confidential tell you that the majority, the vast majority of fbi employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to director comey. >> testifying alongside the leadership at the national security threats hearing, the fbi's acting director andrew mccabe was pressed on the bureau. but his answer critics the message the white house seems
to be putting out over the last couple of days. >> i've heard from a large number of individuals that work at the fbi that said that they're very happy with the president's decision. >> in a rare admission, make abe said morale was down but only after comey recommended against criminal charges for hillary clinton and her team for mishandling classified information. >> there were folks within our agency who were frustrated with the outcome of the hillary clinton case and some of those folks were very vocal about those concerns. >> on the russia probe and its targets. >> the dismissal mr. comey acin any way impeded, interrupted, stopped, or negatively impacted any of the work, any investigation, or any on going at the federal bureau of investigation? >> simply put, sir, you cannot stop the men and women of the fbi from doing the right thing, protecting the american people, and upholding the constitution. >> the committee's chair
focused on the president's conversation. >> did you ever hear director comey tell the president he was not part of an investigation. >> sir, i cannot comment with any conversations he may have had with the president. >> why comey wasn't at the hearing. >> for many people including myself, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the president's decision to remove director comey was related to this investigation. and that is truly unacceptable. >> and the commander-in-chief was singled out. >> president trump's actions this week cost us an opportunity to get at the truth at least for today. >> his critics say mcabe is partisan because his wife took $700,000 for a 2015 state run for democrats. mccabe's testimony also debunked widespread media reports that comey wanted more help for the russia case just before getting axed. >> i strongly believe that the russia investigation is adequately resourced.
>> and on call for special prosecutor. >> the fbi will continue to pursue this investigation vigorously and completely. >> do you need somebody to take this away from you and somebody else to do it? >> no, sir. >> the senate committee leadership met privately with the deputy attorney general rod rosenstein telling reporters after, the meeting had been for a while. the three met forward so that the congressional and federal probes would not jeopardize each other. lou. lou: katherine, thank you very much. we should also point out that andrew mccabe was a long time friend of john podesta, the chairman of the hillary clinton campaign. our first guest tonight reports before the president fired comey, comby had told congress was not a target of the fbi investigation. joining me now is sarah carter, national security and war correspondent for circa news. sarah, good to have you with us. and this is as new charges
spring up saying that it's just improper, that comey would have said such a thing to the president trying to cast doubt that he actually did say that to the president. you have validation for those statements he made. >> yes. and, you know, for months, for months, we have been reporting this. i mean, several months ago, john sullivan and i broke the story that actually restreeled that neither trump nor anyone in his immediate circle was part of an investigation into the collusion with russia. now, there were exattenuating circumstances to this. what we discovered today is that grassley as well as senator feinstein validated this. there are so many myths out there, lou, that are not reality, and i think that's what's happening with this is that people want these myths and these rumors to go away that trump somehow, president trump was in collusion with the russians or any of his top
aids. lou: let me put it forward here just as straight as i possibly can. the president of the united states right now is a target. but he is a target of the largest, most expansive, venomous, disinformation campaign i have ever seen conducted against any political official, let alone any president in our history. >> this is -- yes, this is an intensification of targeting president trump when we saw it today that a number of stories yesterday were not accurate. those stories were not accurate. they were debunked by mcabe, and they were debunked by others. so i think what the president here is we've got to look at this. if the president is not under an investigation, if what they both say is true, then his firing of comey has nothing to do with him being under investigation. because he's not under investigation. it has to do with the way former director comey handled the situation.
and even if director comey personally told donald trump as he suggests that he was not under investigation, that's also a problem because the director is supposed to remain impartial. he's not supposed to talk about investigations at all. and we know from going all the way back to last year that he kept coming in and out of the public limelight making comments about these investigations. and it was like he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. and that just does not work in washington. lou: does not work in washington. nothing seems to work so well in washington as the personal attacks, the politics of personal destruction. it's instructive i think to go back to a statement made by senator chuck schumer or crying chuck as the president has labeled him. on january 3rd, and let's put this up, if we may. the exact quote. senator schumer warning the president "let me tell you.
you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from sunday at getting back to you." extraordinary the warning that -- and the consequences, frankly, persist. and they really do -- it's a strange thing that's happening in the national left-wing media i think, sarah. we're hearing lots of -- everyone stirs up things and wants to talk about what the president should have done, should not have done, will do, won't do. when point of fact, what we're witnessing is the left-wing media that is attacking with a unprecedented verasity with a man without any facts, without any purpose other than partisan. . >> when you look at what happened, lou, i don't think it's just about the media. it's about a group of people that have a particular objective, and they consistently push a propaganda message or disinformation, or i would call it -- in the
military, they call it psyops. psychological operation. to try to push a story out that is not validated or not true. and if you just look at the facts here, you know that one, right now as far as everyone knows, and this includes statements coming from grassley, coming from senator feinstein, as well as the president, president trump is not under investigation from collusion with media. and yet that persists out there all the time. and you look at what happened to lieutenant general michael flynn when he was the national security adviser. so we softening ourselves these questions. are we going to continue to propagate this? because i think that feeds into the russia narrative more than anything else. lou: i can assure you, we are not going to propagate that. it's just unimaginable. the standards that have presented in the craft of
journalism but also when we look at this president and his team working against the psyops, the psychological operations, by the mainstream media, by the democratic party, it's quite remarkable that no one seems to want to say wait a minute, we have too much integrity to persist, no matter what their corporate bosses were demanding. but these journalists who once were journalists are persisting and carrying out without integrity, without principle, a vicious attack for which there is absolutely no excuse, no rationalization. sarah carter, as always, it's great to have you here. terrific reporting. we count you and circa and look forward to seeing you again soon. thank you. >> thank you, lou. >> we're coming right back. there is much, much more from the swamp. stay with us. president trump entirely
straight forward about his decision to fire james comey. >> look, he's a showboat. he's a grandstander. lou: we take up the president's efforts and will talk with former justice department official christian adams here next. lou: and the acting fbi director mccabe on capitol hill today for many reasons. but one was to expose the campaign of disinformation by the fake news about the firing of james comey. we take. up the facts and much more straight ahead. stay with us. we'll be right back

lou: president trump telling nbc news he was going to fire comey, regardless of whatever the recommendations of either attorney general session or deputy ag rosenstein. >> i was going to fire comey. >> you already made the decision. >> oh, i was going to fire regardless. he made a recommendation. he's highly respected. very good guy. very smart guy. but regardless of recommendation, i was going to fire comey. lou: and there it is. nbc, by the way, one of the usual suspects pushing a campaign of disinformation.
the washington post and others, those outlets reporting this week that comey requested more resources from the justice department to investigate collusion between the trump campaign and russia. not so. the acting director fbi andrew mccabe contradicted that reporting today. >> can you confirm that that request was, in fact, made? >> i cannot confirm that request is made. we don't typically request resources for an individual case. and as i mentioned, i strongly believe that the russia investigation is adequately resourced. lou: at what point does a news outlet gain a reputation for repeatedly stating mistruths? untruths? misrepresenting? lying about the president of the united states. at what point is there a consequence? our next guest says president
trump was right to remove james comey as director of the fbi. he sends out an. serving under president bush and obama. chris, let's start with -- this is a remarkable statement that there was going to be -- they had to -- they request -- comey had requested additional resources just days before he was fired by the president. this nonsense that persists and turns into a campaign of disinformation by what were once considered reliable news organizations. >> yeah. the sources of that story were in a nine-hour frenzy because they thought they had a smoking gun, which proves to be a lie. but, lou, look. those news outlets, the familiar ones are integrated components of the dnc capitol
hill. they're not news source. they're part of the attack plan on trump. they're fully integrated with each other, so nobody should be surprised that nbc. lou: i don't think, by the way, anybody watching this broadcast is surprised by any of it. so don't worry about surprise. the shock quotient here is a very high, high threshold. >> yeah. the other thing happening, lou, is the entire washington chattering class has been so out of shape about this story. remember, folks, the law. the constitution says the president could fire comey for any reason. they weren't consulted. they weren't talked to ahead of time. president trump didn't phone a member of the senate. lou: did you hear senator warner today? who does he think he is? he was supposed to be the reliable sedated, careful, cautious, establishment figure along with senator bur and the
rest of the intelligence committee. my gosh, pulling forth, sentence by sentence, not paragraph by paragraph. it's outrageous the things he was saying today. >> think about it. this is the same democratic party that for 67 years laughed at you if you were concerned about russian involvement in the united states. you were a punch line. but now, they're obsessed with russia influencing the election. what they don't care about, lou, is the real foreign influence on our election. unfettered illegal immigration. people getting registered to vote. noncitizen voting, the james comey fbi didn't prosecute once for eight years. lou: and to support your point and distorting by millions of residents in california, illinois, massachusetts, florida are creating congressional districts where none should exist and overrepresentation in those states that bring in illegal immigrants and
underrepresentation in states that follow the law. >> yeah. if democrats really cared about the election integrity, they would worry about people like they nominated for congress like windy rosen who voted twice for president. the democrat nominee and the first marilyn congressional district. this fbi under comey never prosecuted her. she committed federal felonies. over and over again. lou: let's go through the prosecution. the justice department's fbi famously involved in "fast and furious." famously going to resolve with their agents standing in the ruins of the benghazi consulate. we never saw the reports from that, did you? i've never seen the conclusion. i've never seen a single person endited as a result of an fbi investigation into those big scandal of the obama years. all eight of those years. >> yeah. let's talk about the rationale-motivated hate crimes against americans of
all races and creeds that the fbi refused to investigate under comey and obama. we can go on and on about selective law enforcement that endangered american election integrity, endangered americans' lives. yet these democrats are phantom russian threat. lou: let me ask one question as we conclude here, chris. who was it at the dnc that told the fbi that they could not come into the dnc, even as the fbi is alerting them to the fact that the russians have invaded the united states, just at least one piece of it. and it was the servers of the democratic national committee and not a single person that the fbi. why they accepted that rejection from the servers and the offices of the dnc. there are a lot of questions here. you would think there would be a clamor for special investigators by senator crying chuck schumer. but no.
christian, good to see you. thank you. >> thanks, lou. lou: be sure to vote on our poll tonight. the question is do you believe the department of justice should reopen its investigation into the clinton scandals? both the e-mail scandal and the foundation scandal. i mean, if we're going to have trust once again and restore luster to the fbi, maybe we should begin anew. cast your vote on twitter at lou dobbs. follow me on twitter at lou dobbs. like me on facebook, follow me on instagram at lou dobbs tonight. and on wall street, stocks closed lower. the dow down 24 points, the s&p lost 5, the nasdaq down 13 retreating from their all-time highs the nasdaq and the s&p. volume on the big board staying heavy 3.7 billion shares. shares of macy's plunging 17% after macy's reported a big earnings target miss and declining revenue. snap shares continue their slide today down more than 20% after disappointing earnings and slowing user growth.

lou: a few thoughts on james comey andrew mccabe and hillary clinton. andrew mccabe good friends with john podesta married to a democratic candidate, an unsuccessful democratic candidate testifying about the fbi's decision or at least j. comey's decision not to prosecute hillary clinton and the reaction within the agency. >> there are folks within our agency who were frustrated with the outcome of the hillary clinton case and some of those folks were very vocal about this concern. lou: and for good reason. the department of justice inspector general is right now reviewing whether mccabe should have recused himself from that investigation. this after mccabe failed to
disclose donations that his wife jill received for her 2015 virginia state senate run as a democratic candidate. those $700,000 in donations facilitated by none other than alia governor terry mccollum of virginia. in fact he failed to file the necessary disclosures until three days after comey recommended charges in the clinton case last july against those charges. and now with comey gone and tight ties to the clintons and who has something of an aversion to paperwork obviously serving as acting director of the very agency that was repelled by the democratic national committee, even as the fbi warned them that the russians had invaded their servers. the fbi veterans already warning that the clinton investigation could be reopened because there are so many unanswered questions
and the answers they did produce our well, troubling. do you suppose mccabe should recuse himself given his significant ties to the clintons, to mcauliffe and modesto? i would say all of those folks it seems to me have every reason to be concerned that the status quo they created for all of those relationships is no longer tenable and never, ever should have been acceptable to an agency tilt on integrity and trust by the fbi. a quotation of the evening this one from elvis presley. we thought it was time for elvis like the side and you can shut it out for a time but it ain't going away. stay there. we are coming right back. president trump's latest executive order cracking down on voter crowd -- fraud and ensure electoral integrity.

i think it's about going forward cyberspace is obviously and hands. lou: that drives me crazy. it really does. the fact that this president had to issue an executive order to do with the previous president had assured everyone he had done which it turns out there was a reason we marched and estimated 30 million files on federal employees past, getting into china. >> everybody who worked in the federal government including me many years ago personnel management controls all of that said everything rip it off. lou: that's the file i want to see. >> or silly or unfortunate past several fbi checks. i'm not sure i would today. lou: the truth is i would like to see those files but the department of homeland security is getting serious about it but it's so late. it's a responsibly late again i
talked for years about the passive video president barack obama. i had no idea the degree to which you refuse to move to secure the national security to actually do things. he did almost nothing that was positive and productive for this country in eight years. >> we now have a guy that's going to do things that i think it's critical. lou: is a big catch up. >> it is catch up and at the end of the day you have to do the executive orders that obama didn't than he have to move the country for infix of things things and that's what he promised to do in this campaign. lou: listen to this. senator cory booker. have we got the sound because you have got to hear. this is one of the mainstays of the democrats future halat charlie. listen to what the man had to say.
>> we have to get back to the focus of what's going on now which is a moment in history where we have had enough precedent of the attack on our election and how are we as a nation going to respond. donald trump clearly has not taken this seriously and what should be -- for a country where people are talking about the russians are coming. they are attempting to continue this behavior and what will our response. lou: that senator doesn't understand or refuses to knowledge that the russians are coming. they are in the democratic servers walking through democratic national headquarters and the fbi, that was an fbi moment. the fbi was thrown out. i mean how do you explain that? he doesn't even understand the history of the country and the number of times the soviet union was attacking our elections. for 50 years. >> there's a great television series in the reagan years.

point on things for some of the democratic folks there? >> no, it was scheduled for sometime. lavrov was here to talk to the president prior to the meeting that the president's going to have with putin so it was a work up to that and listen gone is any concern the american people may have that this president is going to go easy on russia. that's not happening. as declared himself. first of all we have got a president who is so different from president obama who use diplomacy and engagement to deal with adversaries. this president has already made the rations. he's going to confront them. lou: esrd begun they process whether it's in syria. >> iran, north korea. lou: it's clear to me. meanwhile what is not clear is why there is no call on the part of these democrats to investigate the previous president who colluded with the iranians, colluded with everyone he could find creating a nuclear
deal that is not supportable by any fashion but there's no intellectual curiosity or concern for national security on the part of the democrats. >> the president is going to turn that around in the middle east. it's interesting because his first visit is one to the middle east, israel and saudi arabia. he said to the sunni arabs listen i've got your back. the previous administration is gone. i'm not going to put up with the iranians trampling all over the middle east and i'm not going to put up with radical islam trampling all over the middle east. informally it would be like an air of nato without the formality of nato and that is a huge step in the right direction plus unbelievably close revitalized with israel which needs to be done. lou: and i think his budding relationship with general sec by his encouraging too because to
have this man who appears to me a stalwart for this region for a long time to come. your thoughts. >> i agree totally. the russians are doing everything they can to influence egypt because of the suez canal. they want to build power plants for them and help them economically. we have got to get back in there and assist and work with the cc. lou: maybe act like a superpower once again. general it's great to have you. >> great having you. lou: actor tim allen blasted hollywood's liberals. >> you have got to be real careful around here. don't believe what everybody believes. if you're not part of the group, you know what we believe is right. lou: a great sense of humor but it did have some consequences as of today.

he is a conservative in real life. he would either first time we have seen someone get canned for their political views. it certainly raises questions. lou: to say it isn't so, charlie. say it isn't so. >> the guys genuinely funny and in order to be funny you have to be honest and you have to have some sort of pulse about reality in the world for which nobody in hollywood does. they all believe in political correctness and it's all this lockstep goose-stepping ideological agreement out there. so if you have a guy who is genuinely funny because he is not politically correct out there talking about conservative views or privately holding conservative views they are going to come after you and there's no doubt in my mind that that's what they did in this case. lou: in another case the national left-wing media as well as the dems, the left in this country, attacking just firing
freely at president trump despite the fact they know full well there is no connection or collusion between him and russia , that there is nothing to these stories. they continue to concoct. is it possible that the entire left in this country media establishment, political, academic is so bereft of principles that they no longer have no grounding in the truth and have no regard at all for whomever they destroy with their politics of destruction? lisa. >> yes, 100% without a doubt. i think it's really sad. you are seeing the media carried the democrats water even with the latest with the firing of comey. there was a reporter on another network he said we have a white house that has a credibility in crisis. the media has credibility in crisis. they have been wrong already
about the firing. there were reports that comey was fired in the asks for additional funds. andrew mccabe, the acting director and somehow this is sporting an investigation that is the acting fbi director said is going to be ongoing in critically susan collins said that accusation is patently absurd that somehow the firing is going to thwart an ongoing investigation. it's really ridiculous. lou: of course the bombshell news today that the media is going to try to ignore but of course we are doing our best not to is the senate judiciary committee hearings this morning where chuck grassley the chairman of the committee read into the record that when he and feinstein met with comey, i think it was last week, they came away with in fact president trump is not a target of any investigation by the fbi and a
stunning display of nonpartisanship dianne feinstein the ranking democrat on the committee concurred and agreed and said that was the same impression that she got. that is an amazing development. lou: it is amazing. also to me what overwhelms it all is just the perfidy of the left, the honest to god bankrupt souls that make up the leadership of the left. >> the media never challenges them. lou: it's extraordinary and by the way we ought to extend a thank you to all of the stalwarts in the trump administration who are giving the country another chance. good on you and thank you all. lisa, charlie thank you for being with us. we appreciate it. we thank you for being with us. kiron skinner brett forbes among
